In 1960 when I spent 9 weeks in Europe three of us in a party of four were ill. So when we got to Rome we took off and went out to Elba to recuperate(the weather in London which was rainy and damp had killed us) and had a marvelous time. We rented accommodations from a Count... right on the beach. He took a liking to four young women and we were treated royally. The first night at dinner (white table cloths and the regal works ) he motioned for a bottle of Black Daniels to be brought to the table. That was a great night. When we were on the beach he would provide any drink we wanted. We were well healed by the time we left Elba to go back and do Rome. Copenhagen was another wonderful place. Anyone who has not done Tivoli is missing out on something. Especially at night. Elba was much like St.Thomas with wine vineyards on the hill sides.. Beautiful...
