It's been close before. Winning means you aren't saddled with the losing man or woman. You get to pick your own people. We don't vote for the nominee and his VP- we vote for the nominee who chooses his VP- which is, imo, the way it should be. If you want something different, that's fine, but it's something that hasn't happened since the beginning of the country, and imo wasn't a very good idea then. The losers in any election "lose"- there are no party favors for the losers.
