Usually those regulations are for reasons most people would agree with. Not at the time they were put in place. All the safety regulations put in in the 60's were fought tooth and nail because they made cars considerably mor expensive. You think the industry doesn't fight any increase in CAFE standards? As for SUVs, I figure they're already being discouraged every single time they fill up at the pump. It's happening but too slowly. It's of critical importance that we raise the fleet efficiency in this country... NOW. Of course, that won't stop politicians from punishing SUVs owners even more just to make themselves look "green." Screw 'green', it's an economic and national security issue.
