I haven't followed it closely enough to confidently give an opinion.
I know what I FEEL, but I don't know the law that well. It sounds as if they are trying to stuff her into a law that wasn't really intended for what she did. I don't really hold her responsible for the teen's death, like the Tx cheerleading mom, a parent so emotionally invested in her child's life that she loses all sense of proportion or reason, and actually murdered a perceived "threat" to her daughter. But she certainly contributed.
The worst thing a parent can do is become part of the drama of her children's lives, imo.
Is the girl's family able to bring a civil suit? In this case, my initial reaction is that the shame of what she did, the damage to her own daughter, the cost of legal representation...she is being punished.
does the woman have a history of bizarre behavior?
