I was just wondering how far mother country goes in some people's view of the world.

Some want nationalized health care. We've already got nationalized education with vouchers and school choice being blocked. The post office is going out of business. Do we have any successful govt business adventures that demonstrated govt confiscated oil services will be better than what we already have?

I don't know about Dave, but for me, Obama will fail because he does not have a record to run on. Too many people are voting for Obama because of what they "hope" he represents. They're assigning their own dreams to him because they do not see anything from him, because there is nothing coming from him.

How many times have you dated and the first few dates were the best because it was your hopes you were seeing instead of what you learned later about the person? Obama's "mask" will come off before November.

The first 100 days of an Obama administration:

a) Launch an investigation into the government's role in spreading the AIDS virus.

b) Prohibit the wearing of flag lapel pins because they are poor substitutes for "true patriotism."

c) Nationalize the oil industry and place Maxine Waters at the helm.

d) Begin discussions with Iran and North Korea on conditions for an American pullout of the Middle East and South Korea. Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jimmy Carter will be sent as an emissary.

e) Pass measures that will ensure America will not generate more CO2 per capita than other nations. Nobel Peace Prize laureate Al Gore will write these measures.

f) Grant pardons to William Ayres and the Weathermen.

g) Walk out to the balcony on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and shout, "Black is the new President, BITCH!"

All in good fun ...

If we only had a communist representing that property is a crime and proposing nationalizing ALL corporations based in the United States, then we'd really have the entire spectrum here.

Well, it proves one thing, I think. That Obama is not the mostest liberalest liberal in the whole world like Dave says! There's no way he'd suggest anything like that.

I'm not so sure about that.

I think he would know that could never happen; but if he thought he could get away with it, he is certainly socialist enough to do it.

Amtrak ridership up due to rising gas prices

07:24 AM PDT on Wednesday, May 21, 2008

By JANE MCCARTHY / KING 5 News

SEATTLE - High gas prices are sparking a dramatic response from commuters in Western Washington. More people are leaving their cars behind and hopping Amtrak instead.

As gas prices continue to increase, people looking for cheaper alternatives to get around are turning to Amtrak. Amtrak Cascades ridership has seen a dramatic increase over the same time last year.

"It is definitely because of gas," said Sue Stonecipher, new Amtrak commuter.

Rider James Brown says it just makes sense for him to take the train between Seattle and Lacey.

"It's cheaper for me to take the train than it is to fill up my big gas guzzling truck and go down," said Brown.

Amtrak officials say ridership on the route that runs between Eugene, Ore., and Vancouver, B.C., in April was up 8.7 % from a year prior. They expect this month's numbers to reflect and even steeper climb.

Riders say it's just one way to lay off the gas.

"You know what, I work at a gas station in Indiana," said one rider. "When I change those gas prices, people honk at me. They have made gestures that are not nice."

Fare between Seattle and Olympia costs $14 one way. Fare between Bellingham and Seattle is $20 one way.
