It does look a lot more like '73 than '72 to me in the various money supply items like M2, M3 & MZM and even bank credit.



And here's the current picture since 2000 in a similar chart:



It sure does look probable that we've just passed the peak of this credit cycle too. Check out the large recent drop in total credit - the thick red line. Even the derivatives change rate dropped a few months ago.
