The word "liberal" connotes 1970 era big welfare state government. That hasn't even existed in more than a decade. Clinton got rid of it. Now the wasteful welfare is for the big corporations like Exxon and Chevron which gets billions in tax breaks for screwing us over. Where is the GOP outrage over the immense corporate welfare they created?

As a progressive democrat, I rarely hear the word "liberal" used except by rightwingers who have irrational hatred against FDR, Kennedy, Clonton and oither great democratic presidents. They also hate blacks and Hispanics it seems, whom they imagine getting their money in a "welfare state". But in reality that hardly exists anymore. for instance, an unemployed single mother can get no help at all from the state these days. In many cases she has to turn to stripping (if she is good looking) to support herself. Meanwhile in Canada and Europe they have none of these problems.

And let's be honest about who the rightwing is really defending with these hatred of "liberalism". It's the most miserly in the billionaire and CEO class. They are the ones the GOP fights for, and the only ones.
