The intrinsic reason for LTCM, Amaranth, Niederhoffer, Eifuku (also pronounced I fuck u) is that the implicitly overestimated their "edge" and consequently overbet according to their theoretically applicable Kelly bet. In strict Kelly theory overbetting means that regardless of the edge you end up with zero.
