And therein lies the problem; they have found the soft underbelly of America -- the freedoms that we expect as a result of being Americans are the same ones that allow them to attack us. Even where there is the ability to mildly compromise freedoms on the margin to help (e.g., the Patriot Act), they [the terrorists] can count on the Western Left to tamp them down. As Steve Emerson said, I think it is going to take a much bigger attack than 9/11 to get the point across to many of us. Sigh.......you sound almost wistful. Like you can't wait til it happens.

You're going into a totally different subject here, i.e. how can freedom survive in a world where terrorism pays off big time. Suffice to say that people these days fear a police state more than they fear terrorism. Better to convince yourself that terrorism is just a "pimple on your ass" than to accept the presence of Big Brother. Until the next "pimple" shows up ... Tenchusatsu
