So, America lacks the social safety net available in ALL other developed countries. THAT'S "so what".

None of us ever got to VOTE on whether we WANTED to spend as much as the rest of the world on our military, and most Americans are completely unaware that we do. Most Americans think we spend what China and Russia do, and get paranoid when they hear that China or Russia have boosted THEIR defense spending slightly, even though they still under-spend us by hundreds of billions.

You NEVER hear that we spend what the entire rest of the world spends on it's military raised as a political issue - ever wondered why? Before the 1940's, do you know who spent like we do now? Nazi Germany.
