ML, you might check my post to Bob about strip mining. Moyers knows whereof he speaks on this one. Most likely he has Erikson's book in mind. It was, for many years, a staple of lots of undergraduate sociology courses, won more than a few awards, and written by one of the more eminent sociologists.

Suma - I would simply have left out the stuff about coal miners dumping mountain tops into rivers. While that may have happened decades ago - it does not happen now - and he and the readers should know it.

One of the things that has consistently amazed about leftist critics is that they feel the need for radical hyperbole when there is plenty of legitimate grist for the mill. When they resort to the nutty stuff - they lose credibility.
