it seems obama does well among white voters at politically partisan caucuses, but obama does not do well when a state population votes. the press does not want to explain this, and clearly obama's people don't want to talk about it either. i went to a texas caucus of democrats this year, and it is clear the politically energized are the attendees. it takes a lot of effort to go to a caucus at night and wait around for hours to get to the voting part

Jay Cost had some good articles on this earlier in the year in RealClearPolitics.com. He pointed out that Obama did well among white voters in states with very few blacks (like Vermont), but much less well in states with sizable black populations. Since the Rev. Wright thing came to light, this trend has been exacerbated.
