Yes the Dem base loves Obama, and always loves the anti-establishment new face. But the general electorate will reject him if we're stupid enough to nominate him.

There are no no qualified blacks in the GOP to be president. The closest was Powell but he's discredited and may not even be a Republican. Also, part of McCain's rightwing base is definitely racist. They would never tolerate it. I don't even think they'd tolerate a woman or a rightwing Hispanic. That's where all the real racism lies, in the far rightwing base of the GOP. Just look at the racist ads the GOP runs to get them out to vote.
