Evidently that is not the case. From what I can ascertain watching this only peripherally, and although Samsung and LG are using QUALCOMM ASICs they are, so far as I know, using strictly SBSM WCDMA/HSPA ASICs

This is my understanding as well. It took a few years, but it looks like Korean WCDMA coverage managed to hit a certain minimum threshold of service and sub growth took off soon afterword. Of course, the various levels of subsidies allowed likely also played a part, but I havent followed those moves very closely over the last few years.

I cant remember any DO/WCDMA handsets being launched in Korea in a very long time.
