How to Throw a Friday the Thirteenth Party
By eHow Parties & Entertaining Editor

Friday the thirteenth is as much a part of our cultural memory as any important day. Although most festivities are assigned to particular days and are spent in celebration or remembrance of a person or event, this day is an omen for bad luck. However, that doesn't mean you can't take the opportunity to turn this day into the perfect day for a party.

InstructionsDifficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1 Find creative ways to express the theme of bad luck. While most themed parties have certain colors or decorations which are tailor-made for them, Friday the thirteenth party hosts are left to their own devices.

Step2 If possible, find a way to project the "Friday the Thirteenth" movies on to a wall, or simply play them on a loop somewhere. While these movies are not the origin of Friday the thirteenth as a symbol for bad luck, they are what many people think of first and what they would subconsciously feel was lacking if not present.

Step3 Include "bad luck" culinary delights, such as apples with worms, near the actual food and drink tables. Remember to stock the party with good food and beverages. Just because this is an unusual party, you still want to be a good host/hostess.

Step4 Make sure to host the party on an actual Friday the thirteenth. Doing so on another day may seem fun and ironic for a minute, but ultimately doesn't resonate as deeply. Get under peoples' skin by holding your party on the actual date.

Tips & Warnings
Friday is named after Frigg, the Norse goddess of love and sex.

Paraskevidekatriaphobia, or the fear of Friday the thirteenth, is a condition which affects approximately eight percent of the U.S. population, according to some statistics. This phobia is a combination of a fear of Fridays and triskaidekaphobia, or a fear of the number thirteen. Both of these fears have roots in Christian theology.

Bad luck themed decorations could involve things like non four leaf clovers or a person being struck by lightning. Think of the most basic things which come to mind when you think of bad luck. Ask other people what pops in to their heads as well.

The first "Friday the Thirteenth" movie was released in 1980, with a sequel released the next year. Spinoff sequels continue to be made to this day, featuring the lead character and killer, Jason Vorhees. The series is one of the most popular horror franchises in history.
