Suggest double checking the claim on the Uncle----there may have been an Uncle in his white ancestors.

If he had an Uncle and if the Uncle went to the attic that may have been the best therapy he needed in order to process what he had seen and done in WWII.

I have a Cousin who worked out his effects from the Vietnam War by becoming an excellent artist-----as he painted, the first paintings were rather gloomy-----gradually the paintings changed and were vibrant as he let go of the stress he felt after returning.
