<Individuals will affect the price if Doctors, etc, can advertise.>

Laws enabling lawyers to advertise has proven to be a bad public policy.

Individuals will affect the price if Doctors, etc, can advertise. Not everybody is in an HMO

I doubt that individuals could influence the price for medical services to any meaningful extent. Medicare prices are set by HCFA - Health Care Financing Administration. A Doc who charges more than what they allow is breaking the law and may be subject to sanctions. HMO's and many other insurers use Medicare rates as their benchmark.

We have a more deeply socialized health care system than most people realize. That's the main reason why "customer service" often sucks.
