"I suppose said "nuclear power plant for dummies" will be self-maintaining?"

Do you actually think they go in a fix stuff in the core?

"If we want to help support the failed regime, we could do a whole lot better by helping them build their rail infrastructure and using their own coal. "

I can't argue with that. But, as with Cuba, the goal isn't to help them. The goal is to box them in until they collapse.

"than it does to prop up a solution that works."

That is the problem, Tenchu. You seem to think that our goal in NK has been to help them.

It has never been that benign. If that had been the goal, the war would have ended long ago. Our goal is to defeat them. Because of China, rolling the tanks won't work.

But there are other ways.

The plants are run by Homer Simpsons, or, their Korean equivalents.

Light water reactors are especially cool, since when Homer presses the wrong combination of buttons, they put themselves out.
