And you are usually flying blind. It's almost impossible to get any type of ratings on these people. A medical person gives you a reference? Hope it's based on fact. You have to go by the general reputation of the place, and pray. That is why people pour into well known hospitals. And hope they aren't operated on by a trainee assistant of the top surgeon they talked to.

Find out the staph infection level at your local hospitals? The Federal Government knows, but won't release it. Why? If they did, the hospitals would not tell them the truth in the future.

I was very lucky to get a surgeon recently who was good. Ran into a friend of mine last week who also had kidney cancer, and he has had five operations on his two kidneys in the last three years. After the first two, the last three were to fix what they screwed up. Queen's Hospital in Honolulu, the best place in town.
