I think you nailed it in a prior post. Our way of life could likely survive a nuclear bomb or two going off in an American city. I doubt very much that it would survive the reaction. As Dale said, we would be at war with a draft and full scale war. A drastic increase in the police state (way beyond anything that is currently being complained about) would be an automatic. I'm not sure that I even want to contemplate the possible measures that would be taken against American Muslims in this country. World War II style detainment camps are unlikely, but mass deporations of non-citizens could happen. Who knows how far it would go? You can argue that this shouldnt be attributed to Islamofascism since our reaction will be the cause...but the fact that I see the reaction as nearly automatic means the measures that I am willing to support are nearly the same as if the threat itself was existential.
