<<<The fundamental fact is that these countries are eventually going to go nuclear. >>>

You have nearly identified the real problem.

We should have leadership that addresses the real problem.

Spending trillions of dollars preventing a Saddam Hussein, or Iraq, or Iran from obtaining nuclear capabilities i s kind of stupid.

We have to have leadership to get the world to ban nuclear weapons period.

If we don't do this, eventually, nuclear weapons will get in the wrong hands. If it isn't Saddam Hussein, North Korea, Iran, Islamofacists, some off the wall nut job with a totally off the wall agenda will eventually succeed.

That will be inevitable, if we don't get together and ban nuclear weapons period.

) A nuclear armed Iran might not attack Israel directly....but what happens if the entire region goes nuclear (as is likely) and then Hamas or Al-Qaeda gets its hands on a bomb (either with the blessings of a regime or without) and explodes a bomb in Israel? It is entirely possible that we wont have a return address for an attack. Without that, deterrence becomes an order of magnitude more complex than in the Cold War.

I am glad to read your reasonable responses. However, the one paragraph above is the most salient to me and reasonable. The others are reminiscent of the statement that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

To make an enemy a group... them... they.. is what works. If one would be more aware that in that threatening country are human beings just like ourselves with the same fears, likes, disikes, loves, family, children, conerns... To make them human instead of just those or them...

That is why I sincerely believe in reaching out and trying to understand the WHY for everything. There are reasons. Maybe or maybe not they can be mitigated or resolved. Maybe not but there is nothing like trying.

Of course our Pentagon and other Hawks in our government would not like this at all. WE have to produce weapons. WE have to make our people afraid. It pays dividends.. both literally and figuratively as more companies work on weaponry .
