They never come out and say anyone was fired. McClellan was treated decently and allowed to resign.

CNN reported it as a widening of the "shake-up in Bush's Administration" -- coincidentally with the exit of Rumsfeld.

Clearly, McClellan was fired.

If he was resigning in protest, he sure as hell didn't do it correctly. He was fired.

During an appearance on the South Lawn with Bush, McClellan announced his departure after two years as press secretary saying his departure was right during a "time of transition." (Watch McClellan's throat-strained announcement -- 2:43)

"I have given it my all sir and I have given you my all sir, and I will continue to do so as we transition to a new press secretary," McClellan said. He's expected to remain on the job until his replacement is named.

McClellan's an Austin native from a political TX family--therein lies the clue to Scott's enmity for the GOP. His mother ran for Gov of TX and the GOP denied her the support she requested. Those reasons, along with the fact a tell-all fabrication sells more books than the truth, could explain the weasel's motivations.
