Steve, it is certainly true that the prospective future supply situation for oil is much less promising now than it was 25 years ago.

That doesn't change the fact that increased domestic production over the next say, 8-20 years, will help keep price rises moderate while the transition to whatever comes after the petroleum economy takes place.
