The only problem with this editorial is that adding gas taxes to discourage people from driving gas-guzzlers makes the government addicted to the "free" money they get. And then you end up in a situation like Europe, where people pay $8-10 dollars per gallon, there is no way for them to "save" as much as USA could by switching to economy cars cause they already switched and the government cannot ween itself of the oil taxes cause the budgets would collapse.

Sure, energy policy is needed. But it's not as easy as some journalist schmuck believes it to be.
