There are more orphaned children in the world than all the children living in the USA today. The demographic of unwanted children in the USA has changed since that 1972 statement. Young white people (sadly) don't want to be parents and when abortion isn't an option many of these are willing to give their children up.

The statement made by NABSW was retributional toward white people who want to support unwanted children regardless of race. I hope someday this adversarial attitude will change.

People adopt a child for beneficent reasons and all parenting should be seen as a beneficial relationship from parent to child, even thought not totally selfless on the parents part. However, I don't think it should ever be a forced totally blind assignment by adoption agencies. When 'choosing' a child to care for and raise people should consider the mutuality and compatibilities involved. Great rewards of joy and personal satisfaction are to be expected and often fulfilled in such relationships.
