The constitution is aimed at limiting the government in its oppression of the citizenry. Pretty hard to make that "onerous"- unless the majority feels tyrranized by not being able to oppress the minority via the government. I think we've all seen that claim- think Christians at Christmas complaining about how all those atheists (what % of the population?) are "outlawing" Christmas (that most blatant of holidays.)

I mean people can say anything they want to, but that doesn't make for a division that's logical. I guess I should have specified that it's a logical division I see between the constitutional protections which protect the rights of minorities against the majority, and the rights of individuals against the state, versus ordinary laws, which have no such higher purpose.
