It seems that the way things stand it's up to them. They keep having referendums, but so far "pro-staters" never received the needed majority.

Maybe we should just get rid of it as a territory too. What are the advantages for us? I see only advantages for PR.

It would be a fiscal disaster. The tax shelter would end, the corporations would flee, and the unemployment rate would bust out over 30% within 5 years. Federal tax dollars would go, and nearly zip would come out. It would make Mississippi look rich. PR is a black hole for the federal treasury if it gains statehood.
