I can't resist asking - this "leftist" party drew 49% of the popular vote in 1996, 49% in 2000 and 48% in 2004.

Is the American electorate really almost 50% leftist?

Obviously, I don't think so. And the more the Republicans fall back on the whole "lefty lib" schtick, the longer it will be before they dig themselves out of the hole that Bush-Cheney_Rove dug them into.

Let's not forget the first rule of holes.

Bob;

No - he got where he is by a polished leftist in a leftist party - with emphasis on the polished.

But he also had to overcome being a black man in a country that has consistently been less than enthusiastic - at least in some parts of the country. He has also had to overcome missteps but he has accomplished that. While Hillary seems to dig deeper, he manages to dig out.

If the country is in as bad a condition as you seem to think, shouldn't we try something different rather more of the same? Skepticism sure - ask all the hard questions you want. But to demonize him just because you think he is an unknown is to only guarantee we get more of the same that put us right where we are.

Do you say so in awe or in frustration. It was indeed a very very bright polish to have swayed a good deal of Republicans into his camp.
