I used to post articles about American Muslims protesting terrorists in other countries who happened to be Muslim. I didn't see that posting the article helped at all. Often the very people I had posted to would later say "So why aren't those peaceful Muslims protesting terrorism?". It's not as if many people don't know this is happening- but it doesn't fit with the rhetoric, so they discard the reality in favor of the rhetoric. I don't see what you can do about that. It gets a little tiring to repost the same thing constantly.

denial mode about the attacks on Muslims after 9-11

I'm not in denial, and I deplore any such attacks.

Still, only Muslims can defeat terrorism in their own ranks.

I tell the following story from memory, as best as I recall from a post issued by an SI member that I disagreed and debated with. Unfortunately, my memory lost the identity of the SI person, and if I misrepresent what transpired, I apologize. The time frame is shortly after 9/11.

The SI person called a NYC Mosque. The brief conversation reveals that Muslim enclaves have a long way to go before they understand life in this country.

SI Person: [paraphrased] "We have never met, but I wanted to express my hope that you will not suffer retaliation or vengeance at your Mosque."

Mosque Person: "Well, we are meeting now."

SI Person: "I know Islam is a religion of peace." [Please excuse my faulty recollection, I do not remember the actual words, but it's not important. What's important is the response, because of its lack of appreciation and sensitivity for what was said.]

Mosque Person: "I don't have time to talk to you. We are meeting now."

OT .. may be not..

partnershipsinaction.org

If you can make time, attending and participating in one in your city could be quite rewarding and sure to broaden your awareness of some of the people who might even be your neighbour..

Same event was recently concluded in few cities in Canada last week.. Tomorrow, few more cities will raise some more funds..

worldpartnershipwalk.com

FWIW, here in Vancouver this same group will do another event in fall where they pick a local charity and do all the planning, volunteering, fund raising and the walk (which is called Ismaili Walk for Charity) and funds go directly to that charity..
