I'm not going to judge people on off the cuff remarks- I will judge them on their actions.

The difference between us is that for me, someone who worked in politics and public affairs a long time, people in the public view don't get to divide these worlds. Their remarks ARE their actions much of the time, so what they choose to say or not say is crucial.

If someone can lose their cool and vent their racist leanings in an unguarded moment, then that tells me that much of the rest of what they say and do may have been pretense, or an outright lie.

When people howl and screech nasty things to whip up a crowd or just have a good laugh, they are beneath contempt in my book.

I haven't worked in public affairs in eight years but I am still careful about what I say in any forum, from my dinner table to larger gatherings. To do less is to disrespect our fellow human beings.

I don't want to be known for that.
