Outside of short-range Scud missiles, the U.S. military has never shown any ability to shoot down ballistic missiles, despite spending well over $100 billion and a quarter century trying.

From what I understand, the US actually shot down a Sov ICBM in 1962. ABM is really pretty easy and if the US doesn't have it, we'll end up the only ones who don't.
