Chris, there can be no peace without victory. If it comes down to violence, you should fight to win. Otherwise, don't bother fighting at all. Either road is acceptable, depending on what you believe in.

It's the middle ground where we see violence begetting more violence. If you don't fight to win, but instead fight just for the sake of fighting (i.e. being a bully), you're just asking for trouble. If you think war is just a continuation of politics by other means, then the curse of war will follow you for eternity.

Hence when we dink around with half-assed policies, the results are hardly desirable.

As for what Jesus would say, three words: Count the cost.
