Putin is ruthless and nasty but he knows how to run a balance of payments, and he is doing what the Saudis probably only dreamed about, building an energy and military superpower, and making a profit in the process.

While the US spends itself into oblivion and drowns in our credit card charges at the gas pump.

It is a multipolar world and likely to become even moreso.

Bob -

I thought that today's sky high oil prices were mostly because of soaring demand from China and India. (Never mind that their demand hasn't risen by an amount that could possibly explain the rise in prices.)

Isn't that supposed to be it?

Isn't US demand actually down somewhat?

With all that demand from the Chinese and Indians, wouldn't Russia be happy even if we were drilling all over the place?
