There I go again, shootin' off my mouth without checking my facts.

I report from memory without checking my facts one other Arab contribution that points toward their potential for greatness. They were able to ascertain relative latitude long before Europeans, and they were able to do it so simply that only a chip of wood and a string is required, or no tools at all.

Longitude was a different matter requiring an accurate chronometer.
