There was nothing environmentalist about his analysis. The chart you posted showed the same thing, that until recently Brazilian ethanol was uncompetitive with petroleum.

Your problem is you have a hypothesis and look for evidence to support it rather than vice versa. Not on everything, but on a lot of the topics people argue with you here on the board. This way blinds you to what is really happening...
