Obama's Plan: If you have a plan, you can keep it.

The driving motivator is "something" to lower costs $2,500 per year per family. That may be national, catastrophic coverage or reinsurance. I haven't read it.

But, as one example. after GM "bought" a deal with the UAW last year to shift retiree healthcare costs to the UAW, it would make no sense to have a windfall for the UAW where they would have no costs for what they agreed to pay.

I choose to believe that there will be economic sense in any plan that passes both houses of Congress and is not vetoed. That doesn't mean it couldn't be non-sensical and destructive on a large scale. Our ethanol policy and mandates are examples of intentions run amok.

But I am hopeful that less influence by lobbyists and a change of control in the White House will get us moving toward a track that is an improvement over what we have now, in healthcare.
