The ultra-polarized, partisan Washington political culture is very likely one reason why so few real statesmen are willing to run for president. And the ones that do are usually chopped up by their base for not being partisan enough. Exactly. A lot of good people left politics in the 90's. Now it's often the more ardent partisans who get in, because that's what the game has dictated. I'm hoping the next administration can change that tone, whoever is elected. But I won't believe it until I see it.
