Buck, it wasn't my idea to buy WNR. I received a PM from our good friend JimP a couple of weeks ago. Price was still heading down at the time. I told him I only buy stocks where price is going up. <lol> I kept it on my watch list, but it was Jim who provided me with a heads up.

I adjust my Momentum Bands based on market conditions. In fact, every strategy should adjust for market conditions, I would think.

Anyway, this "sector" has had a nice run. We're starting to see a little more volatility, a little more selling on the down days. Therefore, I prefer to adjust my profit taking on those windfall profit moves. I prefer to capture those profits a little more quickly before another big selling day hits.

Of course, position size often dictates how tight the stops should be. Smaller positions can allow more room than large or overweighted positions. Smaller positions can hold longer term.

Since I take larger positions on my initial entry, I sell 1/2 of that position to lock in profits and allow the other 1/2 a little room to run.

Notice the difference between the 10,1 bands (in red) and the 20,1 bands (in blue.) The 10,1 bands have you locking in profits more quickly.

If the sector weren't seeing institutional selling on down days, I would allow more room to run (on the larger position) via the blue bands.

Buck, RWS did say back on 4/23 that he was adding to WNR.

Message 24526086

I didn't act on his comments or JimP's at the time because price wasn't heading higher at that point.

He started his position back on 4/16.

Message 24503256

So, I have to assume he benefitted from this run and was one of the first, if not first to mention it here.

Edit - PS ... It was RWS that brought it up to JimP on another thread, who then mentioned it to me via PM, I just found out.

So, congrats RWS!
