michael, and imagine the opportunity obama would have to set aside doubts about his backbone. No doubt mccain is the safer of the two in this regard. But that doesnt mean that mccains belligerance if turned against iran without thought of consequences is necessarily the best course for the nation. I think McCain has reputation of being tough, which would probably mean Iran on a better behavior during his presidency. Obama's surrender platform surely has Iran thinking of ways to give Obama opportunities to fulfill his campaign pledge - and more ... And of course there are other issues in the fall to consider such as the state of the US economy and its floundering middle class. David Brooks in todays NYT says the republicans are clueless when it comes to this issue and this is the issue that resonates most in the US BS can resonate well ... I read that article last night, BTW, and it is heavy on punditry (perceptions) and light on substance. I am not faulting Brooks. That's what politics is about. Joe
