At this level, you're diving deep into political philosophies and world views.

This has a profound effect on how modern history is viewed. For example, if you think Ronald Reagan was merely "lucky" in winning the Cold War, you'll never agree with the view that the Iraq war helped Libya give up their nuclear ambitions.


I don't disagree.

These events don't, however, result from good luck. They are complex processes that require massive planning.

RR walked into office in 1981 knowing that bringing down the Soviet Union was one of his top three goals. It is not a coincidence that he accomplished that goal.

I would add that the notion that 9/11 was "luck" is just as absurd -- the attack was literally planned for years (about 4-5, if memory serves). That's not luck.
