Hmm.. not sure this applies to algae farms, unless grown in containment ponds.. Most of the photos I've seen shown plastic "tubes" filled with water and algae, through which C02 emissions are bubbled.

But even were they to escape, the world is already filled with algae.. it's air-blown on the global tradewinds, and the oceans used to thrive with phytoplankton, which provide the foundation for the marine food chain.

Furthermore, they can only grow in water under certain conditions..

So while I might be worried about terrestrial "weeds", I think algae is ALREADY a weed that can be harnessed to produce fuel.
