Many of them wound up in powerful positions in Israel. In fact, for a long time, it seemed as if it was a requirement of office.

Aha.......you've educated yourself.

There are bad actors who are Jews just as there are Arabs and Americans. That these gangs in Israel behaved as they did cannot be justified at all. But it is a stretch to assert that somehow, Israel wouldn't exist today without them.
