Buggi, those tests are using a lot of streaming bandwidth where 8 core penryn was crippled by FSB congestion limitations. By copying AMD's hypertransport links to memory, they've greatly relaxed that limitation.

And they appear to be getting 20% to 50% performance increases from a 100% increase in core count.

Take a look at the dual to quad scaling for AMD on cinebench from the 2220 to the 2360:

Wow! This Nehalem thing is darn fast indeed. At 2.66 GHz it kills already any Penryn out there... A comparison to current AMD CPUs appears to unnecessary cruel IMHO.

Just a few quotes for the more sardonic characters amongst us:

"Intel managed to change the cache structure and introduce an integrated memory controller while making both significantly faster than what AMD managed despite a four-year headstart."

"Encoding performance here went through the roof with Nehalem: a clock for clock boost of 44%. Once more, Nehalem at today's artificially limited, modest clock speed is already faster than any Penryn out today. What Intel did to AMD in 2006, it is doing to itself in 2008. Amazing."

"AMD never really caught up to the performance of Conroe, through some aggressive pricing we got competition in the low end but it could never touch the upper echelon of Core 2 performance. With Penryn, Intel widened the gap. And now with Nehalem it's going to be even tougher to envision a competitive high-end AMD CPU at the end of this year."
