French Jan-April Budget Deficit Widens 3.5% On Yr

PARIS (Dow Jones)--France's budget deficit from January through April 30 widened 3.5% from the corresponding period last year, as expenditure rose and revenue fell, the Budget Ministry said Friday.

The euro zone's second-largest economy posted a budget deficit of EUR45 billion, up from the EUR43.4 billion it posted in the first four months of 2007.

Expenditure rose to EUR98.1 billion from EUR97.5 billion, while revenue fell to EUR67.6 billion from EUR68.8 billion in the same period last year, the ministry said.
