Perhaps they can redesign or supplement the bacteria in the ruminant gut to better metabolize food. Cattle would still be able to graze their pastures, while gaining weight faster or producing more milk.

People worry about supermarket bags. The bags could be shredded and used as fibre for the cows to replace cellulose. < ruminants such as cattle which have multi stomach digestive systems probably have a minimum fiber requirement. >
