I should have mentioned those are NZ$. NZ$100 = US$80. We have been accustomed to high taxes for decades, so we [and Europeans] are less shocked by crude oil price increases which are a smaller proportion of the fuel pump price than in the USA.

Americans with their ridiculous dirty great monstrous SUVs can save a LOT of fuel. There's a lot of spare scrap steel which can't afford the fuel ready to drive to the steel mill/car factory. 2,600 kg to move 70kg of person around is absurd. And that's just the Ford Explorer: internetautoguide.com

Consider the Hummer = 4,700 kg, making the Ford Explorer almost cute. motortrend.com

100 Segways or 1,000 bicycles can replace one Hummer [in weight, and that's not carbon fibre bicycles].

My Camry, which seems huge to me, weighs "only" 1,400 kg.

The Zenbu company car is a Nissan March similar to this trademe.co.nz They are about 700 kg.

A full tank (75 litres) would have been $A115 at our last fill, but it was only half empty...
