I've seen many commentators saying that NDX tends to lead the broader markets. Maybe so. I didn't do any formal studies, but this appears to be more true near bottoms. At tops, check last October highs - Nasdaq topped about 3 weeks later than SPX. In other words, it did NOT lead - the non-confirmation by SPX dragged it down.

edit - same is true, of course, as related to the 2000 top. INDU topped in January, and NAZ run up another 1000 points or so until it went a-crashing in March.
