Will it return, or is it going under the bus? ________________ A few bloggers whose opinions I value think that I, along with Charles Johnson of LGF, are making a mountain out of a molehill about the anti-semitic moonbat guano infesting the MyBarackObama website. Patterico and XRLQ both point out that this is an open forum, and it’s not surprising that a few wackos took advantage of the lax site policing to post their screeds. It doesn’t mean that Obama is anti-semitic or endorses these views, and in fact his administrators flushed some of the sites post-haste when they came to light. Fair enough. But here’s two reasons why I think it does matter: I. How Obama campaigns is important, and it’s reasonable to think he’ll run the country something like he runs his campaign. This is pretty much the only thing he’s run as an executive. Who does he hire? How does he manage them? George W. Bush gets hit all the time for valuing loyalty over competence. Here Obama has introduced a very popular new campaigning tool, but he doesn’t seem very interested in seeing it is managed competently and securely. As Michelle pointed out in an e-mail to me, “…you’d think with all that dough he’s swimming in, he could afford a few good moderators/admins…” It’s a big theme with Obama: he’s all about the splashy marketing, not big on thinking out the consequences. Hey, let’s put an endorsement from Father Michael Pfleger up on the official Obama website! In retrospect, that decision was not a particularly good one, now was it? The MyBO problems have been going on for months now. It’s not just one idiot, but thousands of controversial, vile postings. They’ve taken heat for it for a while now. The “Jemaah Islamayah for Obama” site, which I’m sure is a spoof, had been on MyBO since March 31st. Now here’s the thing: IT’S STILL UP TODAY. But it’s changed from the screencap I took yesterday. Some site admin saw it and said… “myeh.” (UPDATE: As soon as I hit publish, it looks like this is finally down.) No alarm bells there? Hm? Meet the new White House IT chief. Conclusion: Barack Obama hires incompetents, and cares (and knows) more about flashy marketing than competent administration and execution. II. Again, this isn’t just one noxious freak slipping through the cracks. It’s thousands. So why do all these anti-semitic wackos keep su…er, sorry, keep placing their trust in the Obamessiah?* I mean, they see something there. Despite Obama’s lackadaisical, flip-floppy attempts to show support for Israel (which cost him that Hamas endorsement!) Israel hating socialists like George Galloway still see him as the clear choice. So do a lot of interesting people: Ayers. Pfleger. Wright. Ortega. Chavez. El-Hady. Castro. Khalidi. FARC. What is there that draws terrorists, Communists, Jew-bashers, thugs, lugs, dregs, gunslingers, hustlers, rustlers, cutthroats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, conmen, and Methodists to Obama’s campaign like flies to an oyster bar’s dumpster in August?
