There was an article on this effect here in Australia in the Australian Financial Review a few weeks ago. But then the suburbs have always been where the poor live in Australia...

There should be an explosion of car pooling to work. Where is it? Apparently the pain is not enough yet. Intensive car pooling makes even SUVs cost effective. They can haul more people.
