Cut entitlements and people spend less, thereby dampening the economy.

Cut entitlements? That's a energetic riff, Kate, but what does it have to do with McCain and the gas tax?

It seems to me that cutting the payroll tax and substituting the gas tax money instead is a spot on idea. What's wrong with it?

That's the upper 10% of income recipients via higher income taxes.

The point isn't to suck money. His plan is tax neutral. And taxing the upper 10% doesn't do a damn thing to reduce gas consumption, which, if you recall, was the point of this.

for him to suggest putting higher taxes on the price of gasoline with the economy reeling under the weight of the current prices..

I do not get your objection. The plan is tax neutral. Sure, the price of sugar goes up, but so does your paycheck. If you cut back on your gas use, you come out ahead. This is a bad thing?

I would expect you to like the idea, assuming you favor reducing our carbon footprint and/or our dependency on foreign oil, that is. That you don't just doesn't compute.
